Kids First was opened in February 2017 as a special home away from home for children and families. Kids First is part of Words First, an independent multi-disciplinary practice that offers services to schools throughout London. At the Kids First clinic, our therapy team will offer wrap-around care for children struggling with different aspects of their development. The multi-disciplinary approach offers the professional expertise of highly skilled therapists and comprehensive intervention service.
Amanda wanted to reach as many children as possible and set up Words First Ltd as a Company to support schools in London. This Company has grown to be one of the largest independent Speech and Language Therapy Practices in the UK employing 38 Speech and Language Therapists and 2 Occupational Therapists! Words First is commissioned directly by schools but over the years, Amanda received many calls from parents asking for support for their child. Eventually, she could no longer ignore the calls for support and decided to convert her house into a centre for families.
Kids First was born in 2017 when her house became available to either rent out or convert. So, she did the latter and with the help of Emma Ryall, created the safe haven that is Kids First today.
Through Kids First, we support hundreds of families who are concerned about their child’s speech, language, literacy or communication skills. In January 2022, we will be expanding our services to provide Occupational Therapy in our specially designed Sensory Integration space.
Amanda’s hope is that Kids First becomes your ‘home away from home’, the place you will be accepted, not judged or made to feel different. At Kids First you will find happiness, you will be welcomed and loved for who you are and you can rest assured that our dedicated team will be there for you every step of the way towards achieving your child’s goals.
At Kids First you and your child will be welcomed and accepted regardless of your background, age, challenges, religion, race, or gender. Our therapists are here to listen and not to judge.
We will treat you with the professionalism you deserve, from the moment we answer your call to the moment we discharge you from our service.
We believe that, with your permission, a collaborative approach is best for children. This means we will include you in our therapy sessions, we will liaise with teachers and other relevant professionals (with your permission) and will keep everyone in the loop.
We want therapy to be enjoyable and we want your child to look forward to his/her sessions.
Our Speech and Language Therapists and Occupational Therapists are all HCPC UK registered, members of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapy/Occupational Therapy and have additional training in literacy. Our therapists split their time between working at Kids First and working under the Words First umbrella in schools.
Our team of professionals have enhanced DBS checks, complete regular safeguarding training and adhere to the policies and procedures set out by Words First Ltd.
All professionals have a specific area of clinical interest, specialised training and experience in particular areas of Speech and Language Therapy and Occupational Therapy. Therefore, you will be allocated a therapist that suits your child’s needs. Our Practice Administrator will discuss what is best for you.

Words First specialises in an integrated approach to language, literacy and communicaiton skills in primary, secondary and special needs schools. Therefore, your Kids First therapist will also have training in linking the strands of spoken and written language.
